When you need to go back and re-work the reference image
There were a few instances when Firefly didn’t cooperate, which usually happens for one of two reasons: either the image is too challenging to work with, or the prompt text isn’t quite right. I often find that I need to make additional edits in Photoshop to achieve better results.
Here’s an example of a painting where all the outlines got covered up, so I had to digitally add the black outlines to enhance the details.
We weren’t able to generate an output that closely adhered to the first image, but we did manage to create a more matching image using the edited second image.
Whitespace Surprises
Another lesson learned was that when this particular sketch was cropped to a portrait aspect ratio, whitespace was added around the image, causing the lines in the drawing not to reach the edge of the page. When I uploaded it to Firefly, the tool perceived the entire image as a free-floating structure rather than two distinct scenes—one above ground and one below. To address this, I edited the image to ensure the lines reached the edges.
The difference is “Carrot Island” and “Ant Colony”.
