Learn how to process your artwork for best results
Here’s the secret to using Firefly to bring your artwork to life: upload it as a reference image! First, you’ll need a digital version of your artwork, along with some minor processing to make it work smoothly. I usually use Photoshop for this, but the basic editing features in your phone’s photo app will work just fine (I’ll be focusing on iOS for the phone tips).
Step 1: Take a photo of your artwork
You can snap a photo of your artwork using your phone’s camera, or if you have a scanner, that works too. Both methods will help you get a clear digital version of your art.
Step 2: Crop the photo
Firefly can generate images with the following aspect ratio:
- Landscape (4:3)
- Portrait (3:4)
- Square (1:1)
- Widescreen(16:9)
Getting your reference image dimensions to match one of the aspect ratio mentioned above will make things way easier for Firefly.
In your Photos app, just hit Edit, then Crop. Tap the aspect ratio button in the top right corner and scroll through the options at the bottom to pick the one that fits your artwork best.
Step 3: Adjust the levels
To get rid of extra shadows and any unwanted artifacts in your image, tweak the Highlights and Shadows, and bump up the Brightness and Black Point. This will give you nice, crisp dark lines and a clean white background.
