How To: Create Wallpaper Patterns

Guide to creating seamless wallpaper patterns

I discovered Firefly’s ability to create seamless patterns by accident, but a quick search led me to an article about creating patterns using “Text to Vector Graphic” in Illustrator. It turns out that Firefly web also recognizes the keywords “Pattern” and “Icon” (and “Subject” and “Scene”).

A quick test yielded this:

The results aren’t always perfect, but you can either try fixing them in Photoshop or generate a few more until you find one that works.

Notice how the large cherry at the bottom edge doesn’t align with the top edge.

This one looks quite seamless, but the blue pebble and the odd top feature don’t belong.

You’re not limited to square patterns; you can generate a pattern in any available aspect ratio.
